About
Skylar Warren is a composer, hornist, improviser, conductor, and educator. He is a leader in his communities, and an avid new music advocate dedicated to creating inclusive spaces for musicians to collaborate. From 2024-25, he served as vice-president of the 28/78 New Music Collective, and a conductor and artistic director for the Pacific Repertoire Orchestra, both based in Stockton, CA.
Currently he is studying under Daniel Thomas Davis and completing his M.M. in Music Composition at SUNY Binghamton University (‘27). Warren completed his B.M. in Music Composition and Music Performance at the University of the Pacific with Dr. Andrew Conklin and Professor Sadie Glass. He has played horn for 11 years with various high achieving ensembles such as the Society for New Music, Lakeside Symphony, San Francisco Youth Symphony, Pacific Arts Woodwind Quintet, and the YES Company. He attended the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute (2022) and the Cortona Sessions for New Music in Ede, Netherlands (2024) on scholarship.
Warren’s music explores the full range of sound, pushing boundaries in how we think of timbre and color. He has written numerous works for solo, chamber, orchestra, wind ensembles. Currently, he has projects with the Society for New Music, Momenta Quartet, Hub New Music, and the Tri-Cities Opera set to premiere in the winter and spring season of 2026. His piece, Refraction (2023) for Horn Sextet was named honorable mention at the Northwest Horn Symposium composition contest (large ensemble category) in Ellensburg, WA. Another chamber piece, Amethyst (2023) for Brass Trio was selected to be performed at the College Music Society 2024 Southwest Chapter conference.
